Helping Others Pursue Excellence

Our Beginning
In September 2015, after an event at Hamlar Curtis Funeral Home, our founder, Darlene Lewis, noticed an empty building across the street and felt compelled to establish The Hope Center there. On September 22, 2015, she sought guidance from God and was inspired to "Just Open The Door". As winter approached, we began by distributing socks to men on the streets and providing women with personal items in filled purses. Through these small acts of kindness, we connected emotionally and spiritually, building trust and forming a family-like bond. The Hope Center has since become a beacon in the community, offering food, clothing, counseling, job readiness skills, and fostering fellowship among individuals of all backgrounds. In July 2024, we expanded to a new building, amplifying our ability to serve the community and broaden our impact. We currently operate as a warming and cooling resiliency center, providing shelter and support during extreme weather conditions to ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of those in need.In addition to meeting basic needs, we offer after-school tutoring, art classes, and dance classes for all ages, fostering educational enrichment, creative expression, and personal growth. Our mission is to bring people together through love, fellowship, and hope, empowering our community to thrive.
